Blue Jays Soar To 6 2 Victory Over Mets

Blue Jays Soar to 6-2 Victory Over Mets

Jays' Offense Explodes in Second Inning

The Toronto Blue Jays erupted for five runs in the second inning en route to a 6-2 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday night at Citi Field.

Matt Chapman, George Springer, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. all drove in runs in the inning off Mets starter Carlos Carrasco, who was making his first start since returning from the injured list.

Teoscar Hernandez added a solo homer in the third inning off reliever Drew Smith, giving the Blue Jays a 6-0 lead.

Mets Rally Falls Short

The Mets got on the board in the fourth inning on a single by Brandon Nimmo, but they could only manage one more run the rest of the way.

Pete Alonso hit a solo homer off Jays reliever Tim Mayza in the sixth inning, but that was all the Mets could muster.

Manoah Impresses Again

Alek Manoah turned in another strong outing for the Blue Jays, allowing just four hits and one run in 5 1/3 innings.

The right-hander struck out six batters and walked one, improving his record to 12-5 on the season.

The Blue Jays bullpen did the rest, with Jordan Romano closing out the game with a perfect ninth inning.

What's Next?

The Blue Jays and Mets will continue their series in New York on Wednesday night.

Toronto will send Kevin Gausman to the mound, while the Mets will counter with David Peterson.
